The Big Smile Project

A project which is focused on the rescue for the so-called powerbreed dogs. Of course, also this is about our American Staffordshire Terrier as well. It is a given fact that since the eighties in Holland, we see a rising trend in the number of owners of, as they call them nowadays, high risk dogs. This brings a negative side effect unfortunately.
The responsibility to prevent, or to make sure that these effects do not occur are in first instance with the authorities, authorities on all levels, and secondly the breeders of all those breeds.

Responsible dog ownership

For our quality-bred dogs, Old Hickory sets for the future owner of an American Staffordshire terrier, the strict requirement: “responsible dog ownership”. Which means that no puppy will leave our home if we do not have the feeling that this pup will be raised in a good social and stable environment. If all breeders of Amstaffs and other powerbreeds would share this vision, and this together with a strict regulation of the government, projects such as Big Smile would not be needed.

Why on our website?

Why then specifically this Big Smile project that attracts our attention?
This project mainly focuses on these dogs which are in the final stages in the various shelters in Holland or are refused by those shelters.
The goal of the Big Smile project is to adopt these dogs, keeping them in a stimulant-free environment and rehabilitate them, and subsequently convert their behaviour in such a way that it will be easy to find a warm home for them. Personally, I find this a very noble initiative. And let’s be honest, what is more heart-warming than an Amstaff which, in fact, was sitting on “death -row” now is ready to grab that last final chance!?

Sponsors needed!

Of course, there is money needed for projects such as this and therefore this foundation is currently looking for sponsors. Read more by clicking the links. In our opinion, this is one of the few projects related to the rescue of power breeds which is worth to support!
